Afenifere Says Attack On Deji Adeyanju Sponsored By Government

Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, on Monday says the attack unleashed on Deji Adeyanju and other protesters in Abuja is state-sponsored

The protesters were seeking the release of publisher of SaharaReporters and promoter of RevolutionNow protest, Mr Omoyele Sowore, who has been detained by the Directorate of State Security (DSS) in spite of having been granted bail by a court in the land.

The attack, which was said to have been carried out by pro-government thugs in Abuja, left Adeyanju injured.

Spokesperson of Afenifere, Mr Yinka Odumakin, told Tribune noting that the attack was unfortunate, in spite of world outcry against the way the government had been handling Sowore’s case.

According to the Afenifere chieftain who saw the attack on peaceful protesters as state-sponsored, the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government had continued to relax into its barbarism and lawlessness, adding that it had remained adamant and unrelenting in its abuse of rights and the rule of law.

“Well, if that happens that must be state-sponsored thuggery, it is unfortunate that in spite of the world outcry against the way the government has been handling Sowore’s case, the government has remained adamant and unrelenting in its abuse of rights and rule of law,” he said.

Odumakin, however, warned of the consequences of actions having with barbarism and lawlessness, the government should be reminded of the words of elders that when a drum began to sound too loud, the end was always not palatable.

“Just as they continue to relax into barbarism and lawlessness, they should know that when a regime becomes like this one, especially before the whole world- I mean see the way the presidency was talking to America this morning and now you are sponsoring thugs to go and attack peaceful protesters- it is said that when a drum starts sounding too loud, you know what our elders say would happen to that drum. So it’s unfortunate,” he said.
