Six people including a police officer, and three bystanders were killed during hours-long firefight between two suspects and law enforcement in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The two suspects were eventually killed, Jersey City police Chief Micheal Kelly told reporters.
The chaotic scene unfolded on City streets, where a burst of gunfire and blaring sirens were heard as armed officers moved in, according to some footage shared on social media.
The shooting took place at two scenes, starting at a cemetery where an officer was short and continued at a Kosher supermarket where five more bodies were found.
“Our officers were under fire for hours” the Chief said. While no clear reason for the shooting is being given, it is believed that the officers were killed while trying to stop the suspects.
City public safety director said the authorities believed that the bloodshed was not an act of terrorism but that the incidence was still under investigation.
The patriotic officer that was killed was identified as Det. Joseph Seals, a 15-year old Veteran . Chief Micheal Kelly Said.
it was said that the deceased officer was part of a nation wide anti-violence unit. Kelly credited him with removing “dozens and dozens” of guns from the street.
President Trump on twitter called the shooting “horrific”, adding that his “thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families”
It is indeed a sobering period for the residents of Jersey city. it is also worrying that shooting has become a regular lifestyle for the residents of the United States.
