In a heartwarming development, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 108 Nigerian citizens who were stranded in Tripoli, Libya. The agency made this announcement in a statement released on Wednesday in Lagos.
The Director-General of NEMA, Mr. Mustapha Ahmed, officially welcomed the returnees on behalf of the Federal Government. Among the group were 52 males, 46 females, four male children, two female children, and five infants.
The returnees arrived at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Cargo Wing, Ikeja, late Tuesday evening, aboard an Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 with registration number 5A-DMG.
Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Office Coordinator, represented Director-General Ahmed at the reception. In his remarks, Ahmed emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the economy for the benefit of all Nigerians.
He further assured the public that the administration led by President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to youth empowerment, aiming to harness their energy and technological skills to foster the country’s development.
“The President will formulate a policy that actively involves youths and women in its implementation,” Ahmed affirmed. “The youth will be the driving force behind all decisions in this current administration, given the leadership’s recognition of the immense potential within this large segment of the population.”
It is worth noting that the International Organization for Migration, in collaboration with international partners, has been actively assisting Nigerians stranded in Libya since 2017, facilitating their safe return home.
