TikTok has announced that it removed more than 2.1 million videos in Nigeria during the second quarter of 2024 due to violations of its community standards. This move is part of the platform’s ongoing efforts to enhance content moderation and create a safer user environment, as highlighted in its Community Guidelines Enforcement Report released on Tuesday.
According to the report, 99.1 percent of the removed videos were proactively taken down before any user reports, while 90.7 percent were deleted within 24 hours of detection. These figures underscore TikTok’s dedication to staying ahead of harmful content and providing a secure space for Nigerian users.
The removed videos accounted for less than 1 percent of total uploads in Nigeria during the period.
Globally, TikTok deleted over 178 million videos in June 2024 alone, with automated systems responsible for 144 million of those removals. The company noted that its global proactive detection rate had reached 98.2 percent, reflecting improved efficiency in addressing harmful content before users could encounter it.
TikTok further assured that it would continue to invest in advanced technologies aimed at improving content moderation and identifying potential risks on the platform.
