Senegalese born singer Akon is onto something unprecedented as he has announced that he has finalized plans to build Akon City, a 2,000-acre urban area in Senegal, powered by his cryptocurrency called Akoin.

The proposed city will give the citizens of 54 African countries access to credit and government services and the singer announced in a tweet that the agreement to erect the city had been finalized.

Akon has said that the city would be like a “real-life Wakanda”, an obvious reference to the fictional city seen in the 2018 superhero movie Black Panther.

The popular singer who spent his childhood in Senegal before relocating to New Jersey in the United States first made the public aware of his plan at the 2018 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, where he declared that he believed that blockchain and crypto could save Africa in many ways.

Akon’s cryptocurrency, Akoin, will be eventually be made available in all 54 African countries and according to the information provided on its website, it will “empower Africa.”
