‘Life Of Pi’ Actor Irrfan Khan Dead At 53

Irrfan Khan, the actor who enjoyed crossover success with Hollywood in movies like Life of Pi and Jurassic World, has died at the age of 53.

Variety reported the news, revealing that the actor was previously diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour in 2018 and underwent extensive treatment in London.

He recovered and was able to shoot what would turn out to be his last movie Angrezi Medium, which had its release halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Khan was admitted into the intensive care unit of Mumbai’s Kokilaben Hospital on Tuesday, with a colon infection. He died on Wednesday April 29, 2020.

The deceased’s major breakthrough in Indian cinema was in 2004’s Maqbool directed by Vishal Bharadwaj. He played Macbeth.

Khan was introduced to the international movie audience with roles in Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi, The Amazing Spider-Man, Jurassic World, and Inferno.

Khan’s mother died a few days ago in Jaipur and he had to witness Tue funeral remotely via video link from Mumbai due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown in India.

He is survived by his wife Sutapa and sons Babil and Ayan.
