Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Irishman’ Wins Best Picture Award

’s crime drama The Irishman has been named The Best Picture of the Year.

The recognition was given by the National Board of Review Awards yesterday (December 3, 2019) and two of its lead stars, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino shared the inaugural Icon Award as well.

The National Board of Review is a group made up of knowledgeable film enthusiasts and professionals, academics, young filmmakers, and students. It also gave The Irishman the Best Adapted Screenplay Award (Steven Zaillan).

Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood won Best Director and Best Supporting Actor (Brad Pitt), while Benny and Josh Safdie’s Uncut Gems nabbed the Best Actor (Adam Sandler) and Best Original Screenplay.

Richard Jewell directed by Clint Eastwood won Best Supporting Actress (Kathy Bates) and actress Renee Zellweger was given the award for Best Actress for her role in Judy. The cast of Knives Out took home the Best Ensemble prize.

The Best Animated Feature went to DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World while Maiden got the Documentary Feature Award as Parasite won Best Foreign Language Film.
