EFCC Arrests First Bank Staff Over N18.9 Million Theft

A staff of First Bank has been arrested by the Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly stealing N18.9 million.

Phillips Orumade had been in hiding but was recently caught

The staff, identified as Phillips Orumade, was reported by the management of the bank after he was caught on CCTV committing the act.

Orumade is said to be in charge of ATM gallery keys at Aduwawa branch of First Bank. He had disappeared on November 3, 2019, with the aforementioned sum of money, and subsequent efforts to locate him had been futile.

The bank revealed that the suspect had been captured on CCTV walking into the ATM gallery before using a nylon bag to cover the CCTV.

An EFCC operative made the following statement:

The suspect has been on the run and was recently apprehended in Lagos. He has made useful statements and will soon be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.”
