The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control disclosed this after it reported 684 fresh cases in the country on Friday night.

Five deaths were recorded on the same day bringing the death toll to 554.

The health agency in a tweet said the new cases were reported in 19 states.

All the reporting states already had at least a case of the virus.

As of Thursday, 35 states and the FCT have recorded at least a case of the disease. Only one state, Cross River, is yet to officially report any case of the virus.

Lagos recorded the highest daily figure of the infection on Friday and remains the epicentre for the disease in the country.

The 684 new cases were reported from 19 states: Lagos – 259,Oyo – 76, Katsina – 69, Delta – 66, Rivers – 46, Ogun – 23, Edo – 22, Osun – 22, Ebonyi – 21, FCT – 20, Kaduna – 16, Ondo – 10, Imo – 9, Abia – 9, Gombe – 5, Plateau – 4, Bauchi – 4, Ekiti – 2 and Anambra – 1.

“Till date, 23298 cases have been confirmed, 8253 cases have been discharged and 554 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory,” the wrote.

The country currently has 14,491 active cases while 8,253 have recovered and have been discharged.
