The House of Representatives has opposed an amendment seeking to castrate rape offenders.
The House, during plenary, considered and approved a motion seeking severe penalties against worsening cases of rape in the country. the rising cases of rape in the country.
A member, Mr James Faleke, had recommended that persons found guilty of rape should be castrated.
But a majority of lawmakers shot down the prayer, as Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila put it to a voice vote.
In honour of victims of sexual violence in Nigeria, the House resolved that members should be dressed in black on the next legislative day.
