The figures could spell trouble and mount more pressure for Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro, who lost his second health minister in a month on Friday.
President Bolsonaro has ignored health experts and continued to use drugs that have not been proved effective against COVID-19.
Reports reveal that the nation’s leader has publicly attacked state governors who have introduced quarantine measures to combat the virus.
Despite the large numbers of people who have died from the virus, Bolsonaro previously described it as “light flu”.
