Many celebrities (including Jamie Foxx, Halsey, Keke Palmer, Ariana Grande, and Nick Cannon) were pictured among the demonstrators, but one image that stood out is that of a young man proposing to his girlfriend during one of the protests.

While speaking with E! News the man named Xavier Young spoke about the moment, revealing that the proposal almost didn’t happen the way it did.

He said that he and fiancée Marjorie Alston weren’t going to partake in the protest at first because she was pregnant and he had some prior obligations, adding that he didn’t want her out there alone.

Fortunately, Xavier was able to cancel his plans and while packing some essentials, he snuck in the ring for the proposal.

As the pair made their way to the protests in Raleigh, North Carolina, he said completely forgot about the ring he had in his bag.

However, when the opportunity presented itself, Xavier told Marjorie and their friend to stop on the sidewalk so he could grab his water. And then out of the blue, he proposed.

Just then, photographer Charles Crouch happened to be nearby and said to E! News, “I had my camera with me to document it for my company, 4C Visuals Group. I just happened to be standing right there when he went down on his knee. I began taking pictures.

Crouch captioned the photo: ‘Making history while witnessing history, adding: “Went downtown to the protest against police brutality. I was blessed to capture this proposal in the midst of what would become chaos.

Xavier and Marjorie are currently celebrating their engagement. They shared that they hope to be wedded in 2021.
