Warner Bros. has reportedly signed a deal with Cinelytic to use their artificial intelligence project management system to help in their decision-making process regarding movies to be developed or acquired.
A lot of effort goes into the movie-making business and since a huge amount of money is also involved, important decisions concerning production and marketing have to be made. These are the reasons why producers and filmmakers are very careful when the choice of which movies to make comes up.
Odu News found out that according to a report by THR, the deal signed by Warner Bros. will be of particular help in the film festival setting where multimillion-dollar deals are typically made in mere hours.
The report reads:
Warners will leverage the system’s comprehensive data and predictive analytics to guide decision-making at the greenlight stage. The integrated online platform can assess the value of a star in any territory and how much a film is expected to make in theaters and on other ancillary streams.
It will reduce the amount of time executives spend on low-value, repetitive tasks and instead give them better dollar-figure parameters for packaging, marketing and distribution decisions, including release dates.
Also, Tobias Queisser, founder of Cinelytic stated that the AI program would not be taking over the tough creative decisions made by executives.
Artificial intelligence sounds scary. But right now, an AI cannot make any creative decisions. What it is good at is crunching numbers and breaking down huge data sets and showing patterns that would not be visible to humans. But for creative decision-making, you still need experience and gut instinct.Tobias Queisser – joblo.com
