Filmmaker J.J. Abrams has revealed that the real script of the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was leaked on eBay.
During an appearance on Good Morning America, Abrams said the leak happened because an actor left a copy under his/her bed.
They were really nervous about anything getting out, and so they had only a handful of scripts, and they were printed on crazy, uncopyable paper. And then one of our actors, I won’t say which one — I want to, but I won’t — left it under their bed and it was found by someone who was cleaning their room. And it was given to someone else, who then went to sell it on eBay.J.J. Abrams
Star Wars actor Mark Hamill has also stated that he wasn’t even allowed to take the script with him home and that he would have read it in a locked room. He further disclosed that every page was printed on dark paper, making it impossible to copy.
This comes as no surprise as highly-anticipated movies have had their plots closely guarded and in some cases, even the actors aren’t given the details of the film’s ending.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set for a December 20, 2019 release date.
