Moments are fleeting and time is precious; this is the central theme of Simi’s new video for her track Selense. The cool beat is matched by crystal clear visuals, old school representation, and a stunningly regal look from the talented songstress.
We are being admonished to use time wisely as once past, it can never be regained. There should be no room for procrastination and we should take and use every opportunity that comes our way.
Directed by Adasa Cookey for Simi’s imprint Studio Brat, the clip opens with the music artist showing us two different individuals who don’t use to their advantage – the first is a seamstress who spends the better part of her day napping and the second is a shop owner who drinks away his time while keeping his business place locked.
The words “Tomorrow dey, forget today” is a phrase commonly used by the lazy ones who feel that there is always time to do what should be done. Simi uses the line to hit home the fact that doing what is required needs no postponement. There is no time like the present and we ought to make the short time we have on earth count.
With the use of her native Yoruba, Pidgin English and English, Simi’s video is sure to appeal to all and its message is both timeless and spot on.
