In a bid to check the transmission of coronavirus into the area, the Edo State Government has set up five additional screening centres across land borders with Delta, Ondo and Kogi States.
This was disclosed yesterday by the state Deputy Governor and Chairman of COVID-19 Response Technical Committee, Mr. Phillip Shaibu while briefing the press on the activities of the committee.
Shaibu said the move is in alignment with the target of screening and testing 500,000 and 5,000 persons respectively in the state.
The new screening centres make the number in the state a total of 19, with 14 in Oredo Local Government Area.
“This is aimed at guarding against the importation of the virus from these states, and preventing community transmission“, he stated.
It was also announced that Governor Godwin Obaseki will today issue further directives on the state-wide curfew announced to last for an initial period of 10 days.
