Nigerian University Invents Disinfection Machine To Curb COVID-19

The invention was made known by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Muhammad Abdulazeez, while speaking in Bauchi on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.

The scholar explained that the invention was in line with the mandate of the school as a centre for research and invention.

He disclosed that the institution was making efforts to make the ventilators required for the treatment of those infected with COVID-19.

He said:

“Technologists, engineers and other professionals in the University have fabricated a prototype of a ventilator which is cost-effective and efficient.

“The team also fabricated an aerosol box that can be used to protect medical doctors and other medical personnel treating a patient that has tested positive for the virus by placing the box to cover the head, mouth and nose of the patient.”

The Vice-Chancellor speaking further said that the university embarked on the venture considering the high cost of procuring ventilators and other equipment needed for the treatment of the coronavirus, Lassa fever, and other infectious diseases.

Abdulazeez revealed that the school decided to go into deep research and at the end came out with prototypes of the machine. He, however, identified lack of funds as the major obstacle of mass production of the machine.

He called on the government at all levels to contact the Mechatronics Engineering Department of the university urgently for mass production of the machine.
