Farmers in Ughelli, Delta State have been warned by the Most Reverend Cyril Odutemi, the Archbishop of Bendel Ecclesiastical Province, and Bishop of the Ughelli Diocese, Anglican Communion, against confronting herdsmen in the area.
Odutemi made the call while dedicating the new church building of St. Matthias Anglican Church, Up-Agbarho in Ughelli, Delta State.
The clergyman said it was dangerous for farmers to confront the ravaging herdsmen, adding that the people should be careful in dealing with the cow herders.
Odutemi stated that it was safer to keep the herdsmen afar, saying, “When they come around to ask for water, ask them to wait for you outside while you go get them the water.”
He reminded the people that COVID-19 was real, urging them not to joke with it.
Earlier in a sermon, the cleric had expressed his appreciation for those who had worked hard for the completion of the church building, lamenting that most have turned the house of God into a marketplace.
Odutemi emphasized that the house of God was meant for prayers and supplication, and not the house of wickedness.
