Kwara state government has confirmed 16 new COVID-19 cases in the state bringing the total to 127.

In a statement on Thursday, Rafiu Ajakaye, spokesman for the Kwara technical committee on COVID-19, said another seven COVID-19 patients have been discharged after they tested negative twice for the virus.

“As of 9:45pm on Wednesday, the number of active cases is now 82, while 44 have so far been discharged and one death recorded,” he said.

A total of 1,439 samples have so far been tested in the state, with nine results pending as of June 3.

On Wednesday, the NCDC announced that the country recorded 348 new cases of the virus, but no new cases were announced for Kwara.

Ninety persons were discharged on Wednesday, increasing the total recoveries to 3,329, while the number of fatalities in the country is now 315.

A total of 11,166 cases have now been recorded in 35 states and the federal capital territory (FCT), while Cross River is the only state yet to record any COVID-19 case
