A 1997 This Day publication surfaced on social media on Wednesday where the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reportedly said he doesn’t believe in one Nigeria.
Tinubu who is believed to be eyeing the number one position in the country come 2023, made the statement in the April 13, 1997 edition of ThisDay newspaper.
The publication has stirred reactions from some Nigerians on social media with many bashing Tinubu for going against what he had earlier stated.

April 13, 1997 Tinubu maintained he don’t believe in one Nigeria but then after he looted Lagos State from 1999 till today he has been singing the song of one Nigeria to the detriment of all Oduduwas. pic.twitter.com/6EN5OOvrOS

Nigerian politicians are shamelessly situational "patriots." They're irredentists when they're outside the orbit of power and exaggerated "patriots" when they have access to the public till. A man who didn't believe in Nigeria when he didn't have his way now wants to lead it. Ha! pic.twitter.com/vRwZDDVkad

“Bola Tinubu is now a believer in one NIGERIA. Politicians in Nigeria only do what is convenient for them. No principle, no ideology, no integrity, and no reputation” @tundeednut @instablog9ja @renoomokri daddyfreeze… https://t.co/6IlXtMP45e

Suddenly, Jagaban believes in one Nigeria. I just feel for those #Arewatwitter peeps who are his supporters now. Go and ask what happened to Northerners in Lagos when @ogundamisi was OPC secretary and Tinubu was governor. Nigerians have a short fuse, hian! pic.twitter.com/FjSt35JH3P
