On Sunday, German authorities announced that they had detained an Iranian national on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack.
According to police in the western city of Munster, the 32-year-old man had procured an undisclosed amount of cyanide and ricin, both toxic substances, as part of an “Islamist-motivated attack.”
The suspect was arrested following an investigation by the North Rhine-Westphalia Central Office for the Prosecution of Terrorism, a unit of the Düsseldorf Public Prosecutor’s Office.
During a search of the suspect’s home in the city of Castrop-Rauxel, police discovered materials related to the case. Another individual is also being held in connection with the investigation, but no further details have been released. The case is still ongoing.
