Former teacher Waibodei Subiri has secured the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship ticket for the upcoming November 11 gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State. Subiri received 92 votes, defeating his sole opponent Tati Sesei Efebo, who garnered 70 votes, in the delegate election held in the capital city of Yenagoa on Sunday.
Engr. Uche Onyemere, Chairman of the Special State Congress electoral panel for APGA in Bayelsa State, announced the results and praised the delegates for their conduct during the election. He also commended the two contestants for their sportsmanship, noting that this would strengthen party unity in pursuit of their objectives.
In his victory speech, Waibodei Subiri emphasized that the youth would be a priority in his administration, stating that involving a greater percentage of young people in governance is crucial for the state’s betterment. “In management, if you approach from top to bottom, you are destined to fail. So the youths will have a greater part of governance,” he said.
Brisibe Kpodoh, the State Chairman of APGA, described the party as a “very big and responsible family” and credited its unity for the successful, rancor-free election. He added that the election had been widely regarded as one of the most credible ever conducted.
Tati Sesei Efebo, the first runner-up, also praised the party’s transparent and rancor-free election process. With Subiri’s victory, APGA is now focused on unseating the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Bayelsa State gubernatorial election.
