These infractions had prevented the commission from declaring winners in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections. Correspondents monitoring the exercise reported that it was violence-free, with a heavy presence of security agents from the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Army, Department of State Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, and various paramilitary agencies.
INEC Residents Electoral Commissioner Adeniran Tella and his team also monitored the affected polling units to ensure the smooth functioning of the Bimodal Verification and Accreditation System (BVAS). Tella addressed the change of election venue at Idu, explaining that the decision was made for security reasons.
Overall, Tella expressed satisfaction with the BVAS’s functionality, noting that the exercise has been relatively peaceful.
