The Federal High Court in Abuja has announced a crucial decision granting bail to the formerly suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari. This decision comes after a prolonged period of 18 months of detention for the beleaguered officer.
Justice Kolawole Omotosho, presiding over the case, gave the bail order on Thursday, a significant breakthrough for the embattled Kyari. The details of the bail conditions, however, have yet to be disclosed.
Kyari found himself on the wrong side of the law when the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) implicated him in an alleged 25-kilogram cocaine transaction. The serious charges led to Kyari’s arrest in February 2022. Subsequently, allegations of tampering with drug exhibits caused the NDLEA to remand Kyari in Kuje Prison, Abuja.
Despite the recent granting of bail, Kyari’s legal troubles are far from over. He is due to face a separate case before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja. Details of this case remain unclear at this point.
