Mr. Williams breathed his last on Monday, at the venerable age of 104, having celebrated his 104th birthday just last month on August 9.
Born in 1919, Akintola Williams emerged as a towering figure in the world of finance and accounting, instrumental in molding Nigeria’s financial sector into what it is today. His journey towards excellence in accounting commenced when he obtained a degree in commerce, specializing in banking and finance, from the prestigious University of London in 1946.
In a historic milestone, Akintola Williams earned his place in history in 1949 as the first individual from sub-Saharan Africa to attain the prestigious status of a chartered accountant after successfully passing the rigorous qualifying examination administered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW).
