Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his supporters and the people of Imo State following his re-election in a hotly contested gubernatorial poll.
The announcement of his victory was made by the Returning Officer for the Imo gubernatorial election, Abayomi Fashina, on Sunday morning, amidst a wave of excitement and anticipation.
Governor Uzodimma, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured a decisive victory with a total of 540,308 votes, leaving his closest rival, Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), far behind with 71,503 votes. Athan Achonu of the Labour Party (LP) trailed in third place with 64,081 votes.
The election results reflected the will of the people of Imo State, who demonstrated their unwavering support for the governor.
Addressing a congregation on Sunday at the Government House Chapel, Governor Uzodimma expressed his elation over the electoral triumph, which he believes has vindicated his claim as the rightful winner of the 2019 gubernatorial election.
His journey to the governorship began in January 2020, following a landmark Supreme Court verdict that nullified the election of Emeka Ihedioha, the former governor of Imo State, who had been elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking to the enthusiastic crowd, Governor Uzodimma recalled the hurdles he faced in 2019 when he believed he was unjustly denied his “well-deserved victory.” Determined to uphold the principles of democracy, he embarked on a rigorous legal battle that ultimately ruled in his favor.
“This victory is very dear to me because it is vindication that the same God who did it before will do it again. My heart is full of joy and gratitude to all,” Governor Uzodimma said. “My good people of Imo State, I am humbled and honored by your overwhelming support in yesterday’s (Saturday’s) election.
“Your trust in me to continue leading our dear State is both inspiring and deeply appreciated. Together, we have achieved a resounding victory, and I am committed to delivering on the promises made during our campaign.”
Governor Uzodimma extended his appreciation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ensuring a fair and neutral electoral process. He called upon his political contenders to join him in a united effort to build a prosperous and harmonious Imo State.
“In the spirit of inclusivity, we will operate a government that transcends political differences for the benefit of all,” he added.
Governor Uzodimma’s commitment to serving the people of Imo State and his determination to lead the state to greater heights were evident in his words, leaving his supporters filled with hope and optimism for the future of the state.
