The Federal Ministry of Works has declared a complete ban on vehicle traffic across the Third Mainland Bridge for a duration of 24 hours starting from midday today.
In a recently released announcement by Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, the measure is part of the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the bridge.
The closure is essential for the contractors to undertake significant repairs on the structure, as explained by Mrs. Kesha.
Her statement said: “Consequently, the bridge would not be opened to traffic during this critical 24-hour period. Thus, all road users are advised to use alternative routes during this period.
“Motorists are further advised to cooperate with the traffic management officials deployed to manage traffic and ensure hitch-free movements in order to minimize the discomfort during this critical 24-hour period.
“While thanking the general public for their continued cooperation and understanding, please note that all inconveniences are highly regretted,” she added.
Similarly, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has issued a notice regarding the complete shutdown of the bridge.
He advised all motorists to seek alternate passages during the closure, as access to the bridge will be completely restricted for 24 hours, stating, “All road users are advised to use alternative routes already provided during this period as the bridge will not be opened to traffic for 24-hours.”
Mr. Osiyemi expressed gratitude towards the community for their patience and cooperation, ensuring that traffic management personnel will be actively directing traffic to reduce any potential disruptions.
