MTN Nigeria Battles Network Outage Due to Fibre Cuts

The company pointed to numerous fibre optic cable cuts as the culprit behind the recent disruptions in service that its customers encountered, affecting both voice calls and internet access.

Through a statement on Twitter on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the telecommunications leader expressed its regret for the service disruptions and assured its clientele that work is in progress to reinstate full connectivity.

The service interruption, which inconvenienced a vast number of subscribers, led to an outpour of grievances from those who faced difficulties with their network services.

MTN Nigeria acknowledged the inconvenience suffered by its users and offered an explanation for the outage, pinpointing the multiple fibre optic cable cuts as the primary issue.

The company highlighted that its technical team is actively engaged in rectifying the problem, and assured its customers that connectivity is being incrementally restored in certain regions.

MTN Nigeria extended its apologies for the disturbance and sought patience and understanding from its customers as it strives to fully reinstate services.

This incident marks another instance in a series of technical setbacks for MTN Nigeria. Previously, in November 2023, the network encountered a system anomaly that erroneously deducted debts from the accounts of users who had utilized the airtime loan service.

This glitch was swiftly managed by MTN’s technical staff, and the account balances of affected customers were corrected following the resolution of the issue.
