Police forces in Katsina successfully thwarted an attempted assault on Sabuwa town, the administrative center of Sabuwa local government area, neutralizing one suspected bandit in the process.
The incident was confirmed by police spokesperson ASP Abubakar Aliyu during a press briefing in Katsina on Thursday.
According to Aliyu, on April 17, 2024, around 5 p.m., the police were alerted about a group of suspected bandits, armed with AK-47 rifles and traveling on motorcycles, heading towards Sabuwa town with malicious intent.
Reacting swiftly to the information, the DPO of Sabuwa assembled a task force including members from Operation Sharan Daji and the Community Watch Corps to confront the threat.
“They engaged the suspected bandits in a fierce gun duel. The team successfully foiled the planned attack.
“However, a member of the Community Watch Corps sustained a gunshot injury in his right leg and was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention,” Aliyu reported.
He further disclosed that after securing the area, authorities found the body of one bandit who had been neutralized. Additionally, a walkie-talkie and a hand grenade were retrieved from the site.
Aliyu relayed a statement from the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, urging the public to report any sightings of individuals with gunshot wounds, indicating that some assailants might have escaped injured.
The Commissioner also encouraged the citizens to continue providing crucial information on criminal activities and reaffirmed the police’s dedication to safeguarding the lives and properties of the state’s residents.
