On Sunday, former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, visited victims of the Kano mosque attack at Murtala Mohammed Hospital. Obi’s visit aimed to show solidarity, offer support, and thank the hospital staff for their efforts. He extended condolences to the Government of Kano State, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, and the people of Kano.
“The visit was to physically show solidarity with the wounded, offer support, and wish them a speedy recovery, as well as to thank and encourage the management of the hospital,” Obi said. “We stand together in condemnation of any senseless act of violence and killing in our country.”
The tragic attack, carried out by a 38-year-old man who used a petrol bomb during early morning prayers, resulted in a death toll of fifteen, as confirmed by the Kano State Police Command.
In a post on his X handle on Monday, Obi reflected on the incident, calling it a stark reminder of the importance of promoting peace, tolerance, and understanding in society. “This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of promoting peace, tolerance, and understanding in our society to create a safer and more harmonious community for all,” he stated.
