Cynthia Falegan, a graduate of Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), has secured admission to the University of Toledo (UT) in Ohio, USA, for a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, bypassing the traditional requirement of a Master’s degree.
ABUAD’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Femi Olofintila, shared the news in a statement. According to a letter dated March 20, 2024, and signed by UT’s Acting Vice Provost for Graduate Affairs, Dr. Daniel J. Hammel, Falegan’s acceptance into the program was confirmed.
Hammel wrote: “We are pleased to offer you admission to The University of Toledo’s Engineering (Ph.D.) Chemical Engineering program in the College of Engineering for the fall 2024 term. We look forward to meeting you.”
Discussing her decision to continue her studies in the United States, Falegan highlighted the strong research foundation in Water and Wastewater treatment she received at ABUAD and her commitment to sustainable solutions in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region.
“I chose to pursue my Ph.D. in the USA because of the research skills I developed at ABUAD and my passion for sustainable solutions in Nigeria, especially in the Niger Delta. Despite not having a Master’s degree, I was accepted into two prestigious universities with full funding for my five-year Ph.D. program in Chemical Engineering at the University of Toledo in Ohio,” Falegan said.
