Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency responders have recovered the body of a female biker who was tragically killed after being trapped under a containerized truck in Lagos.
The incident, confirmed in a statement by Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, occurred at approximately 6:15 am at Sifax Inward, Iganmu Bridge.
According to the statement, the truck driver lost control while descending Iganmu Bridge, causing the truck to fall on the female biker. “Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver, who was at speed, lost control and caused the truck to fall on the female biker. The driver fled the scene upon realising the severity of the accident,” the statement said.
LASTMA personnel immediately called for assistance from other emergency responders, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit (LRU), to conduct a rescue operation. The deceased’s body was subsequently removed by the Lagos State Ambulance Service, and the containerized truck was cleared to restore traffic flow on Iganmu Bridge.
Security was provided by police officers from Ijora Badia during the rescue operation.
Expressing condolences to the victim’s family, LASTMA urged truck drivers to adhere to speed limits and traffic regulations to prevent such accidents. The agency also advised motorcycle operators, both commercial and private, to follow the traffic rules as outlined in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
