Final Year Student at Tai Solarin University of Education Killed by Suspected Cultists

A tragic incident occurred at the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ogun State, where Ahmed Ayinla Fabiyi, a final year student, was killed by suspected cultists. Fabiyi, who was studying History and Diplomatic Studies, was reportedly dragged out of his examination hall by members of a cult group.

The attack happened around 3 pm on Wednesday as Fabiyi was about to sit for his final exam. According to sources, the incident was part of a renewed clash between the Eiye and Aiye cult groups. The assailants disguised themselves as friends wishing to celebrate Fabiyi’s birthday, thereby managing to lure him out of the hall.

Fabiyi, a former student leader under the aegis of the Students Union Government (SUG) at TASUED, was led to a bushy area near the university’s technical workshop. It was there that the gang revealed their true intentions, brutally beating and attacking him with machetes.

Mrs. Ayotunde Odubela, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident. She explained, “The student was actually carried out of the examination hall as if they were celebrating because Wednesday was actually his birthday. Everyone thought they were celebrating his birthday until he was dragged to the bushy part of the institution’s technical workshop and attacked.”

By the time the school’s security unit was alerted and arrived at the scene, the attackers had fled, leaving Fabiyi severely injured. He was taken to the school’s medical center and then referred to the General Hospital in Ijebu Ode. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was further referred to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.

The school has reported the incident to the police. Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State police, stated that the command has begun an investigation and has launched raids on suspected cultists’ hideouts in the area.
