The Rivers State Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, has suspended all expenditures by Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration until he re-presents the state budget.
According to our reporter, the legislators have given Governor Fubara a seven-day ultimatum to submit a revised budget, as the previous one has expired. Rivers House Leader, Major Jack, introduced the motion to set a resolution, highlighting the urgency of the governor’s deadline to present the 2024 budget to the House.
After deliberation, the Assembly resolved to shut down the Rivers State Consolidated Revenue Account, effectively prohibiting any expenditures by Governor Fubara’s administration until compliance with the budget re-presentation directive.
