The Governor-elect of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has pledged to elevate the state to new heights following his victory in the gubernatorial election. Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, after securing 291,667 votes to defeat Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Asue Ighodalo, who polled 247,274 votes, and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata, who garnered 22,761 votes.
Speaking to reporters after his victory, Okpebholo expressed gratitude to the people of Edo for electing him to lead the state. He promised to build on the foundations laid by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole and bring about significant development in Edo, drawing inspiration from the accomplishments of Senate President Godswill Akpabio in Akwa Ibom State.
“I am very happy, and I thank the Edo people for choosing the right person to do the job,” Okpebholo said. “The new Edo is rising. I am here to develop Edo and transform it into the state it should be.”
He added, “I want to start from where Adams Oshiomhole stopped, and I also plan to replicate what Akpabio has achieved in Akwa Ibom State. By the grace of God, Edo is back again, and transformation is coming.”
Okpebholo will take over from the outgoing administration with a mandate to govern Edo for the next four years.
