INEC Uploads 98.58% of Edo Governorship Election Results to Portal

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has successfully uploaded 98.58% of the results from the recent Edo State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

As of 8:40 am on Sunday, results from 4,455 of the 4,519 polling units where elections took place in the state had been made available on the portal. INEC had previously disclosed that Edo State has 2,629,025 registered voters, with 2,249,780 (85.57%) of them in possession of their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs). The state has a total of 4,519 polling units.

Several candidates, including Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), are in the race to become the next governor of Edo State. The winner will take over from Governor Godwin Obaseki, whose tenure will end on November 11 after serving two terms in office.

Speaking on the smooth transmission of results, Edo State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Anugbum Onuoha, expressed confidence in the process, assuring voters that the results would be electronically transmitted without any significant hitches, provided there were no network issues.

“We have trained the operators for the BVAS. They are set. BVAS is to accredit the voters and to know the total number of voters that will vote at that level and that polling unit,” Onuoha stated during an interview with Arise Television. “After that, the voters will start voting. At the end of the day, they will count the results, and it will be uploaded to our IReV,” he added.

As the election result collation continues, the public remains eager to see who will emerge victorious and succeed Governor Obaseki.
