A disturbing video clip surfaced yesterday, allegedly showing armed Boko Haram militants executing two Red Cross workers in Ngoshe, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. The militants claim the murders are in retaliation for what they describe as the mistreatment of their elders and children by security forces.
The group’s leader, speaking in Hausa, declared that some Red Cross staff and elderly women, including one of his sisters, had been captured. He added that while the elderly women would be released, the other captives, considered “enemies,” would be executed. The video shows the gruesome killings, with the attackers shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is Great) as they carried out the act using an axe.
This incident follows recent reports of killings and abductions in the same region, with terrorists looting farmlands and destroying crops. Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents the area, acknowledged the video but noted that efforts to confirm its authenticity were still ongoing. He expressed frustration that despite repeated warnings, residents of Gwoza continue to face attacks by Boko Haram.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
