The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has strongly criticized recent statements made by former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of inciting unrest and violence across Nigeria. Amaechi had called on Nigerians to protest against the current economic hardships in the country, a move that Matawalle has condemned as irresponsible.
In a statement released on Saturday by the Director of Information in the Ministry of Defence, Henshaw Ogubike, and obtained by DAILY POST, Matawalle expressed deep concern over Amaechi’s comments, describing them as a threat to national peace and stability.
“It is both reckless and irresponsible for a former public servant of Amaechi’s standing to incite Nigerians against their own government,” Matawalle said. He stressed that such rhetoric is dangerous, especially at a time when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing reforms aimed at tackling the nation’s challenges.
Matawalle further criticized Amaechi for attempting to exploit the difficulties faced by Nigerians for what he called “selfish political gain,” labeling Amaechi’s comments as “absurd, preposterous, and shameful.”
The minister reiterated President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in Nigeria and warned that any effort to incite violence or destabilize the country would not be tolerated. “We will not allow anyone to fuel violence or manipulate the prevailing situation of our people. Let this serve as a final warning to Amaechi and his cohorts,” Matawalle firmly stated.
He urged Amaechi to support the government’s efforts to improve the country rather than make “myopic assertions” that undermine progress.
