The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, on Thursday carried out the demolition of 138 illegal shanties situated along the Ajao Estate canal. The operation aimed to clear unauthorized structures contributing to environmental violations and encroaching on public spaces.
Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the operation in a post on his X handle on Friday, noting that many of the occupants of the demolished shanties were paying rents ranging from N60,000 to N100,000 despite the illegality of their settlements.

A video shared by Wahab showed LAGESC officials dismantling marked structures on Baale Shekoni Street in the Oshodi/Isolo area, while residents packed up their belongings as the demolition proceeded.
According to Wahab, the operation is part of the state’s broader initiative to address environmental infractions and curb unauthorized settlements that pose hazards to public safety and sanitation.
