Tinubu Names Shamseldeen Ogunjimi as Acting Accountant General

New AGF takes over as Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein begins pre-retirement leave

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF). This decision comes as Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, the outgoing AGF, proceeds on pre-retirement leave.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of the Accountant General’s office in overseeing the nation’s treasury operations.

“The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is pivotal to our nation’s treasury management operations. Mr. Ogunjimi’s wealth of experience and notable competence will ensure the continued effectiveness of this vital institution as we advance our economic reform agenda,” the President said.

Mr. Ogunjimi, a seasoned professional and the most senior director at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), has a career spanning over 30 years in financial management. He has held key roles such as Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A chartered accountant and certified fraud examiner, Mr. Ogunjimi is also a chartered stockbroker and investment specialist. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and a Master’s in Finance and Accounting, credentials that align with the administration’s treasury reform objectives.

President Tinubu also acknowledged the service of Dr. Madein, commending her dedication and contributions to Nigeria’s financial administration.

“I commend Dr. Madein for her dedication and selfless service to the nation,” he said.

Dr. Madein is set to officially retire on March 7, 2025, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age for civil servants. Her tenure is noted for significant contributions to the management of Nigeria’s treasury.
