New Initiative Offers Free Lessons on TV and Social Media for Academic Success
The Lagos State Government has unveiled the Eko Learners’ Support programme, an initiative designed to help secondary school students preparing for WAEC and NECO exams achieve academic success. The programme, launched at the Education Resource Centre in Lagos, aims to provide free, quality lessons to students across the state.
At the unveiling ceremony, Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, described the initiative as a comprehensive approach to improving academic performance.
The programme includes 320 lessons covering 10 key subjects: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Government, History, Literature-in-English, and Yoruba. The lessons are delivered by carefully selected teachers who underwent rigorous screening to ensure high-quality instruction.
Accessible Learning for All
The lessons will be broadcast on Lagos Television and shared on social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). Each lesson, lasting 30 minutes, will air over 26 weeks and remain archived online for students to access at their convenience.
“This initiative ensures that every student, regardless of location, has access to the tools they need to excel,” Alli-Balogun said.
The lessons align with the Lagos State Scheme of Work and the WAEC and NECO syllabuses, ensuring a systematic learning process that covers the curriculum comprehensively.
Interactive and Collaborative Learning
In addition to private study, the programme encourages collaboration and interaction among students, teachers, and peers. The commissioner noted that creating a supportive learning community is a key goal of the programme.
“The idea is to create a collaborative forum where learners and candidates energize one another to improve performance,” he explained.
He also urged students to seize the opportunity, saying: “Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance will be the keys to unlocking your dreams.”
