Makinde names Fagbenro as new security adviser

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has appointed Abayomi Fagbenro as his Special Adviser on Security, the government announced on Thursday. The appointments came by way of separate official letters signed by the governor's office.

Fagbenro takes up the security post in a state where kidnapping and armed robbery have remained persistent challenges. His appointment comes as Makinde's administration continues efforts to tackle insecurity across the state's rural and urban areas. The governor did not immediately detail Fagbenro's background or security credentials in the announcement.

In the same batch of appointments, Makinde also named Prince Arowosaye Saheed Adeyemi as Board Chairman of the Pacesetter Mineral Development Company. The company operates in Oyo State's mining sector.

Makinde, who is in his second term as governor, has regularly reshuffled his cabinet and appointed advisers to manage different portfolios. These latest moves suggest the administration is making changes to its security management structure as it prepares for the final years of his tenure. The full scope of Fagbenro's responsibilities as security adviser and what specific security challenges his office will prioritise remain unclear from the announcement.
