Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, is the only person to buy the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential nomination form ahead of the party's 2027 election.

The NDC closed sales for its presidential ticket on Sunday after the former Anambra governor submitted his forms. Party sources confirmed yesterday that no other aspirant purchased the forms during the sales window, effectively making Obi the sole contender for the party's presidential ticket.

National Secretary Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu announced that while the presidential form sales ended as scheduled, the party extended the deadline for other elective positions by one week. Aspirants seeking NDC tickets for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats now have until midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026 to collect their Expression of Interest forms.

The party will begin screening aspirants on Tuesday, May 19, and complete the process by May 26. Screened and cleared candidates can then collect and return nomination forms between May 20 and May 26. The NDC warned that no further extensions would be granted beyond the new deadline.

All aspirants must appear for screening interviews at designated venues nationwide with required documents, including educational certificates, birth certificates, passport photographs, voter's cards, NDC membership cards and curricula vitae. The Screening Committee will require six copies of all submitted documents.

The party said it will base screening decisions on the wishes of the electorate, local conditions, aspirants' capacity and competence, and their character. The NDC also instructed the Screening Committee to apply the party's affirmative action policy for women, youths and persons living with disabilities during the process.

Obi switched to the NDC from the African Democratic Congress recently. With him as the only presidential aspirant to purchase forms, party insiders expect him to emerge as the consensus presidential standard bearer for the 2027 general election.

The NDC will complete all screening and nomination processes by May 26, positioning the party for its campaign activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
