A minor fire broke out on Friday at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Works, located in Mabushi, Abuja, shortly after staff resumed work for the day. The incident, caused by a spark from a malfunctioning circuit breaker, was promptly contained, preventing extensive damage.
The Director of Press and Public Relations for the ministry, Mohammed A. Ahmed, confirmed the occurrence. He stated, “A minor fire incident occurred at 11:30 am at Block A of the Ministry. The incident was as a result of a spark from a faulty circuit breaker in the electrical control room on the ground floor.”
The swift action of the Federal Fire Service team, led by Station Commander Mr. Kekai Bekebi, was instrumental in managing the situation. According to Ahmed, Bekebi’s team quickly deployed fire extinguishers to put out the fire, and also ensured a successful evacuation of staff from the affected area.
Mr. Aliyu Abdullahi, the Director of Human Resource Management at the ministry, confirmed that no documents were lost during the incident, and there were no reports of injuries or casualties. He commended the staff for their orderly conduct during the brief disruption.
Following the incident, maintenance personnel were seen cleaning up debris and restoring the affected areas. Regular operations at the ministry have since resumed without further issues.
