The world of professional wrestling is yet to recover from the death of Shad Gaspard, whose body washed up on the shore of Venice Beach in Los Angeles. Now, he is remembered by WWE’s Triple H.
The late Shad had gone swimming with his ten-year-old son Aryeh when they were caught up in a rip current that had lifeguards at the beach rushing to their rescue.
Shad had insisted his son be rescued first and his wish had been done. Unfortunately, when the rescuers went back for him, he had already gone under. A search had begun for him, lasting almost two days before it was suspended.
At about 1.30 am on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, a citizen discovered the body of the six-foot-six wrestler and actor and had notified the police.
Speaking to TMZ Sports on the deceased, Paul Michael Levesque, better known in the wrestling circuit as Triple H, said, “He was just a great human being.”
Shad had started working with WWE in 2002 when he tried out for the Tough Enough 2 reality show. He worked hard and earned a WWE contract the following year, eventually making it to the big stage in 2006.
Shad parted ways with the company in 2010 but according to Triple H, he and Shad maintained a good relationship and even chatted a few months ago.
Triple H said the fact Shad choosing for his son to be saved first “tells you everything you need to know about the guy.” He further revealed that Shad was honored on Wednesday’s NXT show but he believes there will be another tribute during today’s Friday Night Smackdown.
