Sean “Diddy” Combs has been placed on suicide watch at the Metropolitan Detention Center while awaiting trial, according to reports. The measure has been taken as a preventative action, as confirmed by PEOPLE.
Diddy’s legal team had filed a motion for bail, citing the poor conditions of the facility where he is being held. “Several courts in this District have recognized that the conditions at Metropolitan Detention Center are not fit for pre-trial detention,” his lawyers argued.
However, the judge denied the bail request and sided with the prosecution, sending the rapper back to pre-trial detention.
In an appearance on NewsNation’s CUOMO, one of Diddy’s attorneys, Teny Geragos, revealed that Diddy flew to New York 12 days prior to his arrest, anticipating the charges. “He came to the very jurisdiction that is investigating him and said, ‘I’m here. I want to surrender. Let me surrender,’” Geragos explained, emphasizing that Diddy’s proactive move was extraordinary for someone facing serious allegations.
The rapper, who is facing sex trafficking and racketeering charges, maintains his innocence and has pleaded not guilty. Despite his legal team’s efforts, he remains in custody until his trial.
