UPDATED: Appeal Court Sacks Senate Spokesman Adeyeye, Declares Olujimi Winner

A court of appeal sitting in Kaduna has sacked the spokesman of the Nigerian senate, Sen. and declared Senator Biodun Olujimi as the winner of the Ekiti south senatorial election.

The election had on September 9 declared Senator Biodun Olujimi and the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the Ekiti South Senatorial election held on February 23.

The in its judgment nullified elections in some polling units and declared Mrs. Olujimi the authentic winner of the polls.

Dissatisfied with the judgment, both Adeyeye and His party, APC filed a petition at the court of appeal asking it to set aside the ruling of the tribunal.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Biodun Olujimi had challenged the result of the election at the on the grounds that she scored the highest number of votes cast.

In her petition, Senator Olujimi asked the to nullify Adeyeye’s victory on the grounds that the election was marred by massive riggings and irregularities.

In her written address, the petitioner claimed that the election was not conducted in substantial compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Acts, having been allegedly fraught with all manners of irregularities.

This judgement is coming few days after the sack of the APC House of Representatives leader, Alhassan Doguwa by the Appeal court.
