It has been reported that Burna Boy will no longer be embarking on his planned trip to South Africa to perform as the show has been canceled.
Timeslive, a South African media house disclosed that the show was aborted because of the controversy and outrage surrounding it and the organizers talked with Burna Boy’s management to withdraw him before going ahead with the decision.
The decision to cancel the Africans Unite Concert comes after the call from the Tshwane Entertainment Collective to boycott the Africans Unite concert in Tshwane. With the increasing threats of violence from other unfortunate segments of the public and without any government intervention, Phambili Media and Play Network Africa were prompted to take the threats and warnings seriously, as the safety of all artists and attendees could not be guaranteed. We then decided to cancel the concert. The safety of all attendees, artists, and crew comes first. The Show’s Organizers – pulse.ng
The cancellation comes after warnings of a shutdown from a group of artists and organizers under the umbrella of the Tshwane Entertainment Collective.
Rapper AKA had recently told Burna Boy to apologize over his comments about the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians that took place in South Africa, alleging that the Nigerian music star had disrespected his country.
A lot of concern had been expressed by Burna Boy’s fans who hinted that AKA might physically confront him, leading to a clash between the two countries. Most of them will heave a sigh of relief as the cancellation will prevent any such showdown.
