Obviously taking cues from Michael Jackson’s Thriller video and hinting at the beauty of a chaotic party with an obvious nod to Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, Fireboy DML’s clip is impressive but its lack of originality mars it from making an effective statement.
Fireboy DML has the vocal talent and onscreen carriage that is required and the holographic projections at the beginning of the video are top-notch but the CGI environment is a bit too obvious.
The young artist shows signs of musical genius here and it’s easy to forget that he is a newbie in the industry. The dance moves and the moving lights combined with the weird costumes and makeup give off an eerie but welcome feel to the song.
The YBNL signing exudes confidence and is comfortable in front of the camera doing what he does best. Fireboy DML will go places and even though his visual effort has a few flaws, it’s still commendable.
