The Lagos State Command says it has rescued persons chained up inside a church during a raid to clamp down on religious institutions allegedly involved in abuse.
The raid saw the discovery of 15 men and women between the ages of 19 and 50 chained up by the legs in the church premises located in Ijegun. They had been brought by their families to get spiritual help from mental illness and other ailments.
Prophet Sunday Joseph Ojo, the pastor of the church, said he has been in the healing ministry since 1086 and that he chained them to prevent them from escaping.
The pastor and 10 others were arrested and it was learned that NGOs had alerted the police to the activities of the religious institution called ‘Blessings of Goodness Healing Church.’
